Manchester United are having to be brutal this summer as the club look to reboot their form by culling around 14 players, scouring Europe for young, talented upgrades.
Whilst some of their expected offloads are due to players not showing the quality Amorim expects on the pitch, others are necessary evils to generate funds for new signings.
One in particular which has raised controversy is Alejandro Garnacho.
The Argentine winger is set to leave Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim angrily told him “you better pray that you can find a club to sign you”.
This brutal outburst came following Garnacho’s post-match interview after the Europa League final, where the youngster openly undermined the manager’s judgement, having dropped Garnacho from the starting line-up.
Now, several clubs are looking to Garnacho for a summer move, including AC Milan.
However, the public nature of the disagreement between Garnacho and Amorim looks to have weakened Manchester United’s position in being able to demand the previous asking price they set in the winter transfer window.
Argentinian outlet Olé, as reported by Milan News, has reported that Milan are hopeful that their bid of £50 million will seal the deal for Garnacho, who was previously valued at £65 million.
Whilst this is a drop of £15 million, it’s still enough to help United sign key target Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, who are looking for £50 million for their talented attacker.
With the lack of funds at Old Trafford, having missed out on Champions League football, United are reliant on sales to sign their top targets this summer.
Thankfully in the case of Garnacho, the winger is a product of the academy, making him pure profit under Profit and Sustainability Rules, meaning his transfer fee can be redirected to Mbeumo rather than Untied having to cough up anything else.
