Manchester United are looking increasingly likely to miss out on signing Liam Delap as Chelsea take the lead for the striker.

United are viewing Delap as the prefect replacement for Rasmus Hojlund as the first choice striker at Old Trafford.

With Ipswich Town being relegated to the Championship, Delap’s release clause has dropped from £40 million to £30 million, making the 22-year-old an absolute bargain.

The Red Devils have already agreed to meet the release clause terms, and have met with Delap in Manchester, however are now looking set to miss out on yet another striker.

Manchester United set to miss out on signing Liam Delap

Alex Crook has reported that United’s lack of Champions League football is a huge limitation which sets Chelsea ahead of the Red Devils.

Unfortunately with United’s Europa League final loss, Ruben Amorim’s men are without European football next season, with Chelsea finishing in 4th in the Premier League, set for the Champions League next season.

Liam Delap isn’t the first United transfer to fall through this summer, with any chance of signing Viktor Gyokeres gone for the same reason, as well as being financially unviable due to missing out on the £100 million that would have come with the top European tournament.

Although it’s not expected that Delap will made a decision until the transfer window opens next week, United fans will need to brace themselves for Delap to keep playing in blue rather than red next season.
