Shedeur Sanders is going to be the most discussed quarterback on the Cleveland Browns regardless of his standing on the depth chart. The media circus that will follow him throughout his entire career is a large reason why 31 NFL teams chose to pass.

However, he could become the biggest steal of the NFL Draft if he proves the haters wrong and delivers. His numbers at OTAs on Wednesday were a great start.

Sanders was drafted into the NFL with the No. 144 overall pick in the fifth round. Cleveland already added Dillon Gabriel to its quarterback room with its third-round pick. Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett were already on the roster. Deshaun Watson is technically there too even though his career is likely over.

The Browns will obviously need to make a decision on its starting quarterback between now and September. They have OTAs, training camp and the preseason to do so. The question is then how the depth chart is going to shape out from there.

Are they going to carry four quarterbacks? That would be unusual. Are they going to cut Pickett or Flacco and develop two rookies? That would create unneeded pressure on the lone remaining veteran to perform before fans call for him to be replaced. Are they going to cut one of the rookies? That would be silly because those draft picks could’ve instead been used on a different position of need. We’ll see.

In the meantime, it appears as though Shedeur Sanders is at the bottom of the depth chart. He got only nine reps at OTAs on Wednesday while Pickett and Gabriel got 16. Flacco got 14.

Or, maybe, the Cleveland Browns saw everything they needed to see from Sanders. The highly-scrutinized signal-caller actually had the best day of the four quarterbacks from a statistical standpoint.

This is just one day of many. There is no telling whether this snap distribution will stick through tomorrow, let alone the next three months. But it is very interesting to see Sanders get five less reps than Flacco and seven less reps than Pickett and Gabriel. That seems to tell me all I need to know.

I see the depth chart as this in terms of reps:

Flacco (he’s older, less reps needed)

Pickett & Gabriel

Sanders

For Shedeur Sanders to then play the best out of everyone throws a wrench right back into the conversation. It’s going to be a wild ride in Cleveland. Things are constantly changing. Buckle up!
