The Phoenix Suns are embracing change. After hiring Brian Gregory — a first-time NBA general manager — they’re now targeting a first-time head coach to lead the team into a new era.

According to Phoenix insider John Gambadoro and confirmed by multiple reports, the Suns have narrowed their coaching search to five assistant coaches:

1. Chris Quinn – Miami Heat assistant, long-time Erik Spoelstra lieutenant

2. Johnnie Bryant – Cleveland Cavaliers assistant, previously with the Knicks and Jazz

3. Jordan Ott – Cavaliers assistant, ex-Lakers, Nets staffer, and Michigan State connection

4. Dave Bliss – Thunder assistant, developmental background, Knicks alum

5. Sean Sweeney – Mavericks assistant, strong rapport with Jason Kidd and Giannis Antetokounmpo

Additionally, Micah Nori of the Timberwolves is reportedly under consideration, per Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic.

None of the finalists have been NBA head coaches, but all are respected voices with experience on playoff-caliber benches.

Gregory’s vision involves reshaping the team’s identity around toughness, defense, and communication.

Mat Ishbia’s regime is now on its fourth coaching hire in four seasons, following Monty Williams, Frank Vogel, and Mike Budenholzer.

Last season’s Suns — the NBA’s highest-paid roster — missed the playoffs entirely with a 36-46 record.

Roster turmoil looms

--------------------

Kevin Durant may be on the trading block again this summer. The soon-to-be 37-year-old is owed $54.7M per year through 2026.

Bradley Beal is also a potential trade candidate, but his no-trade clause and injury history complicate matters.

Devin Booker is the untouchable centerpiece. The franchise scoring leader is seen as the foundation of Phoenix’s future and is eligible for a $149.8M extension this summer.
