Real Betis 1-4 Chelsea: Scintillating second half secure Conference League crown for Blues

Chelsea became the first side to win all three European honours as they came from behind to dismantle Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final.

It took Betis just nine minutes to open the scoring when Isco won back possession inside the Chelsea half before pushing forward towards the penalty area, where he unselfishly set up Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, who applied a powerful finish into the bottom corner.

The La Liga outfit continued to look the better side in the first half and had plenty of chances to extend their advantage. A first-time strike from former Barcelona defender Marc Bartra was kept out by Filip Jorgensen before midfielder Johnny Cardoso fired over following some excellent build-up play from Ezzalzouli.

Chelsea, meanwhile, struggled to get going and found it difficult to break down the Betis defence. Pedro Neto found space inside the penalty area but fired was over bar whilst a curling effort from Enzo Fernandez deflected wide of the post.

However, after the restart, Enzo Maresca's men finally found some control of the final and found an equaliser on 65 minutes when a pinpoint cross from Cole Palmer was headed home by Fernandez. Palmer nearly scored just minutes later, but Adrian was alert to the danger.

But with 20 minutes to go, Chelsea scored again to turn the game on its head. Palmer, involved once more, twisted and turned before his cross found Nicolas Jackson, who headed into the back of the net to make it 2-1.

It soon got even better late on for the Blues, as a curling effort from substitute Jadon Sancho sailed into the top corner. Deep into added time, Moises Caicedo added a fourth with a well-taken strike on the counterattack to wrap up a sensational second-half performance.

Story of the Match

Both sides made multiple changes from their respective domestic matches, with Real Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini making four changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Valencia last Friday. The defence remained almost the same, with the only switch being Youssouf Sabaly coming in for Aitor Ruibal.

Meanwhile, in midfield, Sergi Altimira made way for Johnny Cardoso, who partnered Pablo Fornals whilst Moroccan winger Abdessamad Ezzalzouli replaced Jesus Rodriguez. Finally, at striker, Conference League top scorer Cedric Bakambu returned to the starting eleven.

As for Chelsea, manager Enzo Maresca heavily rotated in defence having played a crucial match against Nottingham Forest just three days ago. Marc Cucurella was the sole surviver in defence with Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile completing the back four.

As expected, Filip Jorgensen was preferred to Robert Sanchez between the posts. The final change came up front withNicolas Jackson returning, having missed the last two games through suspension, taking the place of**Jadon Sancho,** with**Pedro Neto** moving back out wide.

It was a cagey start to proceedings, with both Betis and Chelsea shaky in possession but the first effort of the game fell to the Spanish side. Ezzalzouli crossed the ball towards Antony, whose header was well off-target whilst up the other end, Cole Palmer cut in on the right but his strike was comfortable for goalkeeper Adrian.

However, with nine minutes on the clock, it was Real Betis who opened the scoring. A defensive error from the Blues ensured the ball fell kindly to Isco, who played a delightful pass into Ezzalzouli down the left, who fired home into the bottom right corner.

The goal very much sparked Betis into life and Pellegrini's side almost got a second through defender Marc Bartra, but his first time strike was tipped over by Jorgensen. But Chelsea soon started to dominate but the Spaniard's should have made it two.

Ezzalzouli was once a threat down the left-hand side before setting up Johnny, who could only fire over - a big let-off for the West Londoners. The Moroccan was proving too much for right-back Gusto, who was struggling in place of captain Reece James.

Meanwhile, Chelsea were struggling to get going in attack - unable to break down a Betis defence holding their own in the first half. Neto tried to threaten Adrian but his curling effort was blazed miles over.

In the closing stages of the first half, Enzo Fernandez tried his luck on the edge of the area but his shot deflected wide. However, it proved to be a poor first 45 minutes from the Blues whilst Pellegrini's Betis were very much in control.

With his side struggling, Enzo Maresca wasted no time in turning to his bench by taking off Gusto, who had a very poor first half, and bringing on captain Reece James. Pellegrini almost made a half-time substitution with Romain Perraud, formerly of Southampton, replacing Ricardo Rodriguez.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Chelsea came close to equalising when a corner fell to James at the backpost, whose first-time drive was blocked and put wide. However, the Blues were starting to gain more control of the game as both Levi Colwill and Sancho entered the fray.

Though midway through the second half, Chelsea found themselves back on level terms. Cole Palmer forayed forward towards the box before playing a wonderful cross into the path of Enzo Fernandez, who headed home from close range.

The goal sparked the West Londoners into life, who were very much on top in the second half. Palmer almost put Chelsea in front but his strike was straight at the goalkeeper. However, with 20 minutes to go, Chelsea turned the final on its head.

Palmer was involved again once more down the right-hand side, who got the better of Perraud before crossing towards Nicolas Jackson, who was in the right place at the right time to put the ball home. A sensational turnaround from the Blues.

Chelsea almost added a third on the counterattack following a Betis corner, which was led by Jackson. However, a poor touch from the Senegalese resulted in a wasted opportunity from the Blues forward.

But with seven minutes to go, the West Londoners extended their lead as substitute Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall pushed forward through midfield before setting up Jadon Sancho down the left, who curled a brilliant strike into the top right corner for 3-1.

Betis, meanwhile, tried to find a route back into the game but Antony's drilled shot was comfortable for Jorgensen, who had very little to do in the second half. Though deep into stoppage time and Chelsea made it four.

The Blues pushed forward on the attack, led by Fernandez, as the Argentine set up Moises Caicedo on the edge of the area, whose first-time drive was put home past the goalkeeper to seal the victory.

Player of the Match: Cole Palmer

With Chelsea trailing 1-0 on the hour mark, they were desperate for some inspiration to get back into the game.

Step forward Cole Palmer, who delivered two brilliant assists to Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson, turning the game in the West Londoners' favour. It was a sensational display.
