Ex-NBA Player Weighs In on Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Contract Before Offseason

The Oklahoma City Thunder are enjoying one of their best seasons in franchise history.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took home the league's Most Valuable Player award while leading the Thunder to the NBA's best record of 68-14 and the No. 1 seed in the NBA Playoffs.

The Thunder made quick work of the Memphis Grizzlies before beating the Denver Nuggets in a grueling seven-game series.

Ex-NBA player weighs in on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander contract

As a result of his play, it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibilities that Gilgeous-Alexander would seek a hefty extension next offseason.

That extension could be the biggest contract the league has ever seen at five years for $380 million. He already met the criteria for a super max, but didn't meet the years of service criteria.

Former NBA player Quentin Richardson knows what Oklahoma City is about to do with Gilgeous-Alexander.

"The Oklahoma City Thunder are about to deliver a whole bank, not the Brinks truck, a whole bank is about to be sitting at Shai's," said Richardson. "Very good for him."

Gilgeous-Alexander has Oklahoma City in a prime position.

Up 3-1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals, the Thunder are just one win away from going to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2012.

The Thunder are heavy favorites to win the NBA Finals at -380 on DraftKings. That's an implied probability of 79.17%.

But no matter what happens with this year's Thunder team, Gilgeous-Alexander can pretty much already start counting his money.
