Chelsea have emerged victorious this evening, lifting the UEFA Conference League trophy after beating Real Betis 4-1.

The Premier League side went into half-time 1-0 down thanks to a goal from Abde Ezzalzouli, however completely turned things around in the second half.

Goals from Enzo Fernandes, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo led to Chelsea winning the tournament, and earning Europa League qualification which is now seemingly irrelevant.

Chelsea finished the Premier League in fourth place, granting them a spot in the Champions League, so the trophy was the main thing on the line tonight.

However, their win comes at a cost for United who are now set to miss out on an extra windfall payment.

Whilst United’s loanee Jadon Sancho emerged victorious, his Red Devils teammate Antony left the game in commiserations, being on loan with Real Betis.

Chelsea block Manchester United windfall payment from Real Betis

It’s understood that as part of the loan agreement, an extra windfall payment was included should Real Betis win the conference league.

Now, as Betis failed to lift the trophy, United miss out on the £306,000 they could have pocketed should Betis have won.

Antony has been instrumental to Betis’ success, securing Europa League football through LaLiga, netting United an extra £126,000 in the process.

With nine goals and five assists in 26 games, Antony truly has enjoy a resurgence of form on his loan spell in Spain.

As such, the Spanish side are looking to pull out all the stops to retain Antony for another season at least, to help with their Europa League campaign.
