Jordan Love not using last year’s knee injury as an excuse

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - After seeing some of his stats decrease across his first two years as a starter, Jordan Love is not viewing his knee injury in Week 1 of 2024 as an excuse.

Love missed the next two games with the injury, with the Packers winning both matchups to improve to 2-1 following the season-opening loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

As a result, Love finished with 3,389 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns in 2024 compared with 4,159 passing yards and 32 passing touchdowns the season before. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur insinuated that the injury played a role in that statistical dip.

“I think a lot of that is out of your control,” LaFleur said. “He does a great job of controlling what he can control and doing the necessary things from a workout perspective, from a rehab perspective. It’s the game of football. There’s gonna be unforeseen challenges, but I thought all in all, he handled himself as good as you could have considering the circumstances last year.”

Despite the missed time and perhaps the lingering effects of the injury, Love still believed he was capable of performing at a high

“If I’m healthy enough to go, I’m trying to give it my best and be the best player I can be,” Love said. “I’m gonna always hold myself to a high standard. Obviously it’s not fun playing through injury but sometimes there’s things you got to do. There might have been some things that might have been affected but at the end of the day, I’m still trying to put my best foot forward and I got to go out there and be the best player I can be.”

For Love’s predecessor, Aaron Rodgers, Year 3 is where he took his game to another level, where he helped lead the Packers to a victory in Super Bowl XLV.

“We talked about that last year and that’s the same message this year, is we’re trying to win a Super Bowl,” Love said. “I’m definitely trying to be that guy to be able to take this team and lead them to that. I think when you talk about Aaron and what he did in his third year, I never try to compare because that’s so hard to do. There’s so many different situations that go on. But at the end of the day, I’ve been here, going on year 6, going on my 3rd year playing. Everything’s right in front of us and for this team. It’s just about going out there, executing. But the goal is definitely a Super Bowl. That’s the mindset we have and we’re gonna put in the work to be able to hopefully get there.”
