Mystics pick up their 3rd win of the season against the Caitlin Clark-less Fever, defeating Indiana, 83-77.
Call it great defense by the Mystics or call it the impact of the Fever being without Clark, but the Fever could not find a rhythm on offense. As a team, the Fever shot just 39.7 percent from the field and 23.8 percent from 3 point range. The 2nd half of this game was even more problematic as they managed to shot just 36 percent from the field.
At times, especially in the 2nd half, the Fever just could not get clean looks. Mystics were able to jump out to as much as a 12-point lead, but even when that lead was being chipped away, it just never felt like the Fever could put enough offense together to take command of the game. Aliyah Boston was only able to attempt 5 shots for 10 points and Kelsey Mitchell shot just 25 percent from the field.
Mystics were sparked early on in this with by Shakira Austin who put up 15 points, including 13 in the 1st half. Austin played with a lot of energy, getting the ball in the post and getting to the free throw line a few times. She was limited in her time in the 2nd half as she continues to come back off of concussion protocol, but her time on the court was impactful
Brittney Sykes led the team with 21 points as well grabbing a team-high 9 rebounds. She did not have the most efficient night (6 for 17 from the field), but she hit some big shots in the 2nd half to continue to extend the Mystics lead.
Mystics started out slow, but ended up being in control for much of this game. With this win, the Mystics get back to .500 and will next have a Friday night tilt at home against the defending champion, New York Liberty.
