'That was our worst period': Iraola reflects on tough run in 24/25 campaign

That run was ended by Liverpool, but, after bouncing back with a victory at Southampton, Bournemouth went on a run of six games without a win, with all games against teams outside the top eight in the table.

They lost to Wolves, Brighton, Brentford and Ipswich, while drawing with Tottenham and West Ham.

The win at Saints in February saw the Cherries sat fifth in the league heading into that run, and they had slipped to eighth after they returned to winning ways against Fulham in April.

The defeats to Wolves, Brentford and Ipswich were three of only five to sides below them in the final league table – the other two coming against the Bees and Leicester earlier in the season.

“There always has to be a bad period,” Iraola told the Daily Echo.

“Even if in your best season you will find the worst. And that was our worst period. February, March, probably you think if we haven't lost the points against Ipswich or against.

“But reviewing the season, I think if you consider the 10 teams that are lower on the table, I think it's 20 games.

“We've lost three games from 20. There are always going to be some bad losses in a season. You sometimes lose against teams that are low in the table.

“Sometimes, yes. But most of the times we win because when you win against someone that is at the bottom, probably you don't value \[it\]. But there always has to be a mistake.

“In our case for me I consider that was the worst period for us.

“February, March, that period because we were in a great position and we didn't have a very difficult schedule really in those games and we didn't take the points that probably we would have needed.”
