The Cleveland Browns are going to be one of the most interesting teams to keep an eye on throughout the 2025 training camp and preseason period. With five quarterbacks on the roster, they will have a very healthy competition at the position and will also be a team who could be a trade partner for a team needing a quarterback.
Right now, the Browns have Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson as their five quarterback options.
With that being said, the trade buzz has already begun.
According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, one of the quarterbacks will likely be traded at some point.
“I still think they look at quarterback pieces like currency,” Fowler said. “So if someone goes down in training camp, like there’s an injury, they have somebody that they can trade. Maybe it’s Pickett, maybe it’s one of the rookies... but I have a hard time thinking they keep four on the roster. I think it might be three.”
While he didn’t mention Flacco as a possible trade candidate, that could make sense as well. If Pickett, Sanders, and Gabriel play well, they all can offer long-term value to Cleveland. Flacco, on the other hand does not.
Regardless of who stays and who goes, the Browns simply need a couple of options to step up and offer them a legitimate starter and backup combination.
Throughout the season, it would not be surprising to see multiple quarterbacks play for Cleveland. The team will want to get a look at Gabriel and Sanders before next offseason, when there will be more talented quarterbacks available in the 2026 NFL Draft.
As training camp and preseason action get underway, fans will have a better idea of where the quarterback room stands. It’s quite possible Sanders and Gabriel will come out on fire and make the decision easier for the Browns’ front office.
Expect to continue hearing a lot of rumors and speculation about what is in store for Cleveland under center. For now, Fowler’s expectation is that someone will get traded at some point.
Fans will get a first look at the quarterbacks during OTA’s and then training camp will open up in July. This is a situation for Browns fans to keep a very close eye on.
