Illan Meslier alternative transfer fee set as Leeds United face Newcastle fight amid fresh…

Leeds United continue to prepare for their Premier League return as the summer transfer window opening countdown goes on.

Sunday is the day the market will open for the first time this summer.

Clubs will have ten days to do deals during an exceptional registration period before the Club World Cup begins and then business pauses for a week.

It will start for a second and final time a week later, running until this summer's deadline on September 1.

Leeds have been bullish about how much they want to spend, and below is a round-up of the latest transfer news :

Tornqvist transfer fee set

The Whites will reportedly have to pay circa £1.5 million to sign Mjallby goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist this summer.

FotbollDirekt claims the Swedish club's management and sporting director, Hasse Larsson, have set that price, which they consider high.

Such a fee is relative to the Allsvenskan.

The outlet highlights how it is comparable to what Derby County and Coventry City and paid when signing Jacob Widell Zetterstrom and Oliver Dovin last year from Djurgardens and Hammarby, respectively.

LeedsLive says: Dovin and Zetterstrom showed last season that there is value to exact when signing goalkeepers from Scandinavia.

Such a deal to sign Tornqvist would be a relatively low-risk alternative for Illan Meslier, but there are obvious concerns about the step up from the Allsvenskan to the Premier League rather than the Championship.

Kalimuendo interest rekindled

Three years on from first reportedly having talks with Paris Saint-Germain regarding signing Arnaud Kalimuendo, interest from the Whites has reputedly reemerged.

TBR Football claims its rekindling has coincided with Rennes being ready to cash in on the player this summer.

Newcastle United, however, are now also credited with an interest in the France under-21 international. They are said to see the striker as a replacement for Callum Wilson.

LeedsLive says: Leeds paying the reported €30m £25m) that Rennes want for Kalimuendo and pipping Newcastle to the player would be a huge statement this summer.

H owever, were they to miss out, it seemingly only increases the chances of Wilson leaving St James' Park and could benefit any attempts the Whites make to sign the former England international.
