Thunder advances to the NBA Finals, SGA wins West Finals MVP

Thunder has advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2012, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was named Western Conference Finals MVP.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have delivered. After one of the best regular seasons in recent memory, they’ve proven themselves in the playoffs—advancing to the NBA Finals by defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-94 in Game 5 and winning the Western Conference Finals 4-1.

The Thunder were led by regular season MVP and superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who dominated Game 5 with 34 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Gilgeous-Alexander was also named Western Conference Finals MVP, averaging 31.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 5.2 rebounds over the five-game series.

This marks the Thunder’s second NBA Finals appearance, excluding their history as the Seattle SuperSonics.

The last time OKC reached the Finals was 13 years ago, in 2012, when they were led by Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden. They ultimately fell to the Miami Heat in five games, 4-1.
