Tottenham have been linked with an experienced winger ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sané would bring a wealth of experience, including having played in the Premier League, and he could be a bargain signing this summer. Here we round up the latest on Tottenham’s links with the Germany international.

Sané ‘offered’ to Spurs

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Sané, presumably by his agent. Sané’s contract at Bayern Munich expires this summer, so it would be a cost-free signing in terms of transfer fee, with significant wages likely to be demanded.

Spurs are likely to have competition if they do pursue a move, but they can now offer Champions League football, and that will surely help their cause. If the report is accurate, it would suggest Sané wants to move on from Bayern, unless his agent is establishing a wage market to take back to the negotiating table with Bayern.

What Sané has said

Sané has refused to be drawn on his contract situation through the season. He said back in the winter: "Of course clubs have asked about my situation. But everyone knows my position on the matter.

"I'm not going to deal with it at the moment, I'm going to concentrate on Bayern and try to be as successful as possible with the team." That proved to be a wise move, with the winger and Bayern going on to win the Bundesliga title.

Bayern Munich’s stance

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has said of Sané’s situation: “I don’t know his motives [for switching agents], I have to say. We look after the player and the person Leroy Sané, not his agent. I can’t judge what his reasons were. He has said often enough that he would like to stay here in Munich. I think you can tell that he really likes the team and appreciates the coach. When you’ve seen him play in the last few months, it’s not just his goals but also his joy of playing that he’s rediscovered.

"I’m an optimist and confident by nature. We’ve almost always reached an agreement with Pini Zahavi, be it with regard to Robert Lewandowski or David Alaba. Of course he's a tough negotiator, but so are other agents.”

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen added: “It's like the weather, things can change.”

Pundit verdict

Sky Sports Germany pundit Dietmar Hamann had his say on Sané’s situation recently. He said: “Musiala and Davies, though younger, now earn double or triple. Kimmich’s deal was extended at similar pay. Sane has a right to ask why he should play for half."

Ultimately siding with the German club, Hamann added: "Bayern have paid exorbitant sums recently, losing decision-making power. Withdrawing Sane’s offer now would send a strong signal."
