Brentford will accept Newcastle United Bryan Mbeumo transfer bid - on one condition

Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo is a long-term target for Newcastle United.

This is the first time Newcastle have been in a position to significantly strengthen the team since the summer of 2023 having been hamstrung by Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Newcastle United ready to move for Bryan Mbeumo

One of the positions Howe is keen to strengthen is right forward with Jacob Murphy, who had an excellent campaign with nine goals and 14 assists, the only recognised out-and-out option following Miguel Almiron’s sale to Atlanta United in January.

Newcastle are huge admirers of Mbeumo, with only Mohammed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23) and Erling Haaland (22) scoring more than the Cameroonian’s 18 in the Premier League last season.

According to The Telegraph, Howe’s side are “ready” to make their first move for the 25-year-old.

Thomas Frank makes Bryan Mbeumo admission

Thomas Frank has already admitted Brentford are a selling club but will only accept a bid for Mbeumo at the right price. Sky Sports have recently claimed Mbeumo is valued at £60million with Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur also keeping tabs.

"I'm the head coach, I want my best players to stay forever," Frank told Sky Sports earlier this month. "I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford, he's thriving, doing well and playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don't know.

"I've said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren't selling clubs.

"So, of course, if the right price - and that's going to be expensive - is coming, then I'm sure the club will be open for it. But I'm very happy he's here, and I'm convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here."

Can Newcastle United afford Bryan Mbeumo?

Signing Mbeumo at that price would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive transfer behind Alexander Isak. It is a huge sum of money, though it isn’t something the Magpies are afraid to commit to - if there is an unanimous agreement that he is the right player.

“We've not been afraid historically, if the money is there, to sign a big player, i.e. Alex [Isak],” Howe told NewcastleWorld earlier this month.

"For me, that was big money at the time - still is big money in anyone's world - but we felt he was the right player to spend that money on, so I'm more than happy to do that if that's the right thing and it has the biggest effect for the team and for the squad.

"But I don't think I can give you a clear answer now on what direction we will go because we don't know everything that we need to know."
