Forever immortalised in the history books, Chelsea became the first team to win all three European club competitions on Wednesday night after a 4-1 victory over Real Betis – but Man of the Match Cole Palmer’s ‘rude’ post-match interview with TNT Sports has been slammed by fans.
The Spanish side, led by Manuel Pellegrini, opened the scoring through Abdessamad Ezzalzouli in the ninth minute – and it took until the second half for Enzo Maresca’s men to reply. And that they did through Enzo Fernandez, who equalised in the 65th minute.
It was a dominant second 45 for the Blues. Nicolas Jackson added a second; Jadon Sancho – whose future remains untold – also got in on the act with seven minutes left on the clock while Moises Caicedo put the final nail in the coffin in added time.
A Closer Look at Palmer’s Post-Match Interview
‘To be the only team in history, it’s a great feeling’
Central to their win was Palmer. Widely regarded as one of the best players in world football, the Manchester-born lad – a scorer of 15 goals in the 2024/25 season – took the game by the scruff of the neck and delivered when it mattered the most with two crucial assists.
Reece James and Palmer, appointed Man of the Match by UEFA, spoke with Becky Ives of TNT amid the post-match jubilation. James was articulate and summed up his thoughts well, but his teammate and compatriot has been slammed for the opposite.

On his two assists, which helped the west Londoners grab a foothold in the Wroclaw-based final, the floating creator-in-chief was asked how he managed to find the necessary space to make the difference. He replied:
“Urmmm, I don’t know. I just feel like I was trying to find the space as the game got going. And yeah.”
TNT’s Becky Ives was also asked whether winning the ‘full set’ of UEFA trophies means something to Chelsea as a collective. “Yeah, of course,” he replied, before nonchalantly adding: “To be the only team in history, it’s a great feeling. So yeah.”

Palmer, 23, was then pushed for his thoughts on whether Chelsea’s 2024/25 campaign could be considered ‘a successful one’ after securing Champions League action for next season and winning the Europa Conference League in rampant fashion.
Pointing towards James, Palmer kept it short and simple by saying: “Ask the captain.” The ex-Manchester City hotshot is known for his laid-back approach, both on the pitch and in interviews, but supporters are still not pleased.
Palmer Slammed For 'Rude' Interview with TNT
‘No wonder there’s so many people today with no respect for others’
As mentioned, fans have not taken to Palmer’s post-match interview well. On his perceived lack of respect, one said: “What a terrible rude attitude Cole Palmer had during that interview. No wonder there’s so many people today with no respect for others.”
“Why does Cole Palmer come across miserable purposely? Just do a 2-minute interview with a smile.” a second fan said before one put his talent to one side to call him ‘rude’. “Cole Palmer is an amazing footballer, but he’s bloody rude in interviews.”
