Liverpool player has ‘no intention’ to renew contract – Determination to sign him to fix ‘shortcomings’

Over the past few weeks, Liverpool’s Luis Díaz has been repeatedly linked to Barcelona.

The Colombia international’s contract is until 2027 and is one of the lowest paid players at Liverpool.

On Friday, Sport reported the Reds have offered the forward a two-year extension with an improved salary. They also stated he has postponed renewal talks until July.

Both Díaz and Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García are on the front page of today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, with ‘priorities’ written in bold. Barca believe the duo are the missing pieces to help them ‘raise their level’ and fix their ‘shortcomings’.

The La Liga winners want to improve their left side of attack and have identified the 28-year-old as a priority target. He can also operate as a No.9, meaning Díaz can provide cover for 36-year-old Robert Lewandowski.

Díaz’s versatility, profile, experience and ability to create immediate impact has seen Deco make him the priority target.

The former FC Porto man isn’t one of the top earners and wants to take the next step in his career by joining Barcelona. Therefore, he has ‘no intention’ of renewing his contract at Liverpool as long as the Barca dream is alive.

It’s unclear whether Barcelona will be able to meet Liverpool’s request of €70-80m for the attacker.

Liverpool are working on a move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz for a deal well over €100m. Hansi Flick’s side believe the English champions need funds and could sell Díaz. Whether that’s the case remains to be seen.

Barcelona are determined to sign Díaz and García in order to improve their squad and face different challenges to seal these operations.
