Sources close to Martín Zubimendi reveal Arsenal truth – Not in London, no medical

On Wednesday, AS reported Arsenal have decided to pay Martín Zubimendi’s €60m release clause and the Real Sociedad star has signed a long-term contract with the Gunners. They also reported he could undergo medical examinations in London yesterday.

The UK media also stated the midfielder has signed the documents related to the transfer to Arsenal and is set to carry medical tests.

Cope contacted Zubimendi’s entourage for an update on these latest claims from the UK and Spain about an Arsenal medical in London.

They insist the 26-year-old hasn’t travelled to London and a medical with Arsenal hasn’t been scheduled. The player is in San Sebastian, in the Gros neighbourhood, and Zubimendi himself uploaded a photo of Zurriola beach on Wednesday afternoon.

Cope believe the Spain international posted this picture to dismiss the Arsenal medical claims, stating: ‘The photo appears to be a subtle, yet direct, response to the immediate rumours.’

Sources close to the midfielder ruled out him making a trip to London yesterday, but his move to the Emirates doesn’t seem to be in danger even though Real Madrid have been credited with interest.

Zubimendi’s agent also manages new Los Blancos manager Xabi Alonso. Despite this, the report states there are several indications that the Premier League and specifically Arsenal is likely to be his next destination.
