Exclusive: Arsenal discussing bid for £55m attacker who once gave Jakub Kiwior nightmares

Arsenal are having discussions about a move for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, TBR Football can reveal.

Leroy Sane has seemingly been linked with a move to Arsenal ever since he left Manchester City for Bayern Munich in 2020.

Sane won two Premier League titles with Man City before he decided to return to Germany in a £55m deal, where he’s also proceeded to enjoy a lot of success.

But at 29-years-old, Sane’s Bayern contract is set to expire in just over one month’s time, and he will leave the club as things stand.

And given that Andrea Berta is determined to sign a new winger to boost Arsenal’s squad this summer, Sane is being tipped for a reunion with Mikel Arteta, a pair who worked together at the Etihad.

Arsenal considering a move for Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane

That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has now confirmed that Arsenal have considered offering a contract to Sane.

The Germany international already has offers from several clubs, including one from his current club Bayern.

And whilst Arsenal are yet to make a formal approach, he is still an option for Arteta’s side.

Bailey explained: “We have been here before with Sane – talks with Bayern have been off and on, he has a good offer from them but his people are assessing options elsewhere.

“I am told there are two offers in Turkey, one from Galatasaray which are ‘very big’ and there is the Saudi Pro League.

“As we revealed previously he was offered to every major club in England, even former club Man City.

“There is a liking for the player in England and Arteta is a fan, and whilst there is interest – no offer has come from Arsenal yet – he is an option I am told and they have talked about a prospective deal.

“Sane is a top player and appeals on a free transfer – could he be seen as a ‘win now’ player, quite possibly.”

Leroy Sane caused Mikel Arteta to substitute Jakub Kiwior

Of course, Sane gave a glowing account of his talent when he played against Arsenal in the Champions League last year.

Sane started both matches of Bayern’s 3-2 win on aggregate, and the former Man City player gave Jakub Kiwior a torrid time in particular at the Emirates.

Kiwior was playing at left-back on that occasion up against Sane, and Arteta actually saw fit to replace the Poland international at half-time, such were his difficulties against the Bayern winger.

Taking to X at the time, Ian Wright saw fit to point out that Sane had been ‘so good’ against Arsenal, perhaps meaning that he’d be a fan of a move this summer.

Arsenal are looking at a number of wingers right now — it’s not just a striker who Berta is chasing after sealing a deal for Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal are monitoring Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid, a winger who still has his best years ahead of him.
