Rumour Mongering: Diaz Identified as Al-Nassr’s Top Target

According to talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook, Liverpool FC are aware of Al-Nassr’s interest in Luis Diaz.

The 28-year-old Colombian had his most productive season as a Red yet, registering 17 goals and 8 assists in 50 appearances this season, playing as a left-winger and center-forward in Liverpool’s league-winning campaign.

The transfer links come amid a period when the forward has been pushing for a contract extension, and rumours of a €70-80m move to Barcelona, which his father had previously revealed as his dream club. Barcelona now seem to be pursuing a move for Marcus Rashford, which would be at half of what Diaz would cost.

Al-Nassr also appear to be parting ways with 40-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, who posted a vague cryptic farewell-ish message on social media after yet another trophyless campaign. That would certainly open up money and space for a big-time transfer from Europe.

I suspect Liverpool will be happy to let this play out and allow Diaz to choose what he wants to do next. They’ll be open to extending him, but given his age and pecking order in the squad, I don’t think they’ll be in a hurry. Also, given that Diaz is reportedly earning £55,000 per week, trying to cash out and make out as much as he can for his next and probably last contract of his career will probably be a wise move.
