The 2024/25 campaign will go down as an unprecedented success for Newcastle United in the Premier League era.
Winning the Carabao Cup and securing Champions League football looked like a Herculean task for Eddie Howe and co. at the beginning of the season, particularly after a disastrous summer transfer window.
But it’s a testament to the quality and ambition of a number of stars in our squad that we’ve achieved so much this season.
As expected, many Magpies have been listed in pundits’ respective Teams of the Season, with one pundit in particular lavishing praise on our side as he selected FOUR in his 2024/25 XI.
As part of the TalkSport team, former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling has singled out four Newcastle stars to feature in his Premier League Team of the Season.
The first inclusion being none other than Big Dan Burn, as the Boy from Blyth was our most consistent central defender throughout the season, and of course opened the scoring in the Carabao Cup final.
TalkSport writer was baffled by the Geordie’s inclusion however, writing: “Burn marked a curious choice given the prowess of Virgil van Dijk, Gabriel and William Saliba to name just three.”
Moving onto the midfield, and Bruno Guimaraes has also been given the nod alongside Bruno Fernandes and Alexis MacAllister.
The captain has wrote himself into Toon folklore this season, and has been an ever-present feature alongside Sandro Tonali and Joelinton, who many herald as the best midfield in the entire league.
Stelling’s choices in attack are relatively straightforward, as the Premier League Player of the Year Mo Salah was an obvious inclusion.
Joining the Egyptian in the front three are perhaps two of **the** standout players in our entire campaign.
Alexander Isak set club records throughout the season, and has cemented himself as arguably the best pure striker in world football, with 23 goals placing him second in the race for the golden boot.
And who else but Jacob Murphy? The 30-year-old produced form that we’ve never seen before, with wonder goals (8) and assists galore (12) making him second only to the aforementioned Salah in terms of assists in the league this season.
