A record nine Premier League clubs will play in European competition next season across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

A unique set of circumstances has seen six English clubs make it into the Champions League for the first time.

Two more Premier League sides will be competing in the Europa League, while one more spot has been taken up in the Conference League.

We have seen Tottenham win the Europa League this season and on Wednesday night Chelsea claimed the Conference League.

With more English clubs than ever in Europe next season, there is every chance that we could see more continental trophies lifted by Premier League teams.

Other major leagues will be very well represented across the three competitions as well, with La Liga seeing eight teams qualify for Europe, while Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 get seven spots.

But which English clubs have made it into which European competitions?

Premier League teams in Europe next season

Champions League

Liverpool (Champions)

Arsenal (second place)

Manchester City (third place)

Chelsea (fourth place)

Newcastle (fifth place)

Tottenham (Europa League champions)

Europa League

Aston Villa (sixth place)

Crystal Palace (FA Cup winners)

Conference League

Nottingham Forest (seventh place)

Why didn’t Brighton qualify for Europe?

There was some hope that Brighton could have joined the European contingent, but that was dashed on the final day of the Premier League season.

Chelsea would have needed to finish seventh in the top flight and then won the Conference League on Wednesday, or finish sixth, with Newcastle seventh, before winning in Wroclaw.

As the Blues beat Nottingham Forest to finish fourth, the Seagulls could no longer make it into the Conference League next season, despite finishing eighth.
