Napoli were supposedly on the brink of signing Kevin De Bruyne but that move could now be in doubt with Antonio Conte expected to leave the club, according to a report in The Independent.

The midfielder has announced his exit from Manchester City and he will now be available as a free agent. The Belgian international was all set to join Napoli and reportedly, he had even bought a villa in Naples. However, Conte’s departure from the club will not help this transfer.

Even though Napoli are still one of the frontrunners to sign him, Kevin De Bruyne has not ruled out a move to a new Premier League club. He prefers to remain in the European top flight and given that he’s spent more than 10 years in England, the midfielder won’t mind playing for one of Manchester City’s rivals.

Is Kevin De Bruyne set to remain in the Premier League?

It’s very clear that nothing has been formalised between De Bruyne and Napoli and all the other suitors still have a very good chance of landing the 33-year-old.

In recent months, Liverpool and Chelsea have been the two Premier League teams who have been continuously linked with the attacking midfielder and if he really wants to remain in the English top tier then one of these two clubs will be the ideal destination.

His form might have dipped in recent years due to injury problems but KDB’s vision is still unmatched. Without him, Manchester City have looked toothless in attack and the 33-year-old will be a great asset to have on the bench. This was his worst season with City but he still managed 14 goal contributions in 40 appearances.

At Stamford Bridge, he can play in tandem with Cole Palmer while at Liverpool, the Belgian international will be the backup to Florian Wirtz. We don’t know how De Bruyne will feel about playing second fiddle to another No. 10 but if he wants to continue in England, that’s a sacrifice he has to make.

At this age, if he chooses to remain in the EPL, the midfielder will need to understand that he cannot play every matchweek but his impact off the bench will be unmatched.

He was earning about €465,000 per week at Manchester City but as per reports, the midfielder is willing to take a pay cut to join Napoli. Kevin De Bruyne is ready to accept an annual salary of €6 million in order to join the Serie A and if he can accept similar numbers from a Premier League team then Liverpool and Chelsea will sign him in the blink of an eye.
