Idrissa Gana Gueye has just made his decision on a new Everton deal - insider

Everton’s contract headaches have continued beyond the final game of the season.

Monday saw a number of players released by the Toffees from their loan stints, as David Moyes suggested last week.

But Everton are still yet to secure deals for the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Idrissa Gana Gueye.

In recent days, it has been suggested Paris FC are showing an interest in Gueye who has previously played his football in the French capital.

However, he is a player who most Everton fans would like to stick around for the new season with the big move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium around the corner.

Everton have already released Orel Mangala to return to his parent club Lyon after his injury-stricken campaign.

Losing Gueye would prove a huge blow and leave the club with a lot of work to do in the window.

Following a quiet January window, Everton are keen to sign a new midfielder this summer to really bolster Moyes’ options.

Talks are ongoing to sign Carlos Alcaraz permanently, and those at Finch Farm are looking to close a deal for Gueye’s stay.

According to one club insider, Everton are now ‘advancing’ in their talks with the Senegal midfielder over a new contract.

It is claimed the midfielder is keen to stay on Merseyside this summer and all parties are hard at work to get a deal agreed.

This is an important step for Everton who would face a difficult challenge in replacing Gueye if he was to leave.

Everton fans have been desperate for Gueye to stay on the back of what was a stunning season in the Toffees’ midfield.

Ahead of the stadium move, Gueye will be viewed as one of the senior figures to lead the club forward.

Everton need to build around Gueye

With Gueye now looking likely to stay at Everton, the club need to bring in some players to compliment his playing style in the middle.

It has been suggested Everton are looking to sign Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United, who would offer a versatile option in the middle.

But it is also important that Everton have a direct replacement incase of any injury issues.

Gueye fortunately made it through the 2024/25 campaign unscathed, but Everton have little luck when it comes to injuries.

Losing Gueye to a significant injury after just signing a new deal would be a huge blow and it would be made even worse without a replacement.
