Idrissa Gana Gueye is close to extending his contract at Everton and remaining on Merseyside this summer.

That’s [according to Foot Mercato,](https://x.com/Santi_J_FM/status/1928013465706209361) who report that Everton’s offer to renew is close to being accepted by the 35-year-old.

They report that both sides are close to an agreement on a contract extension for the veteran, who was set to become a free agent on July 1st.

Journalist Santi Aouna adds other details, reporting that an agreement is now in the final stages between Gueye and Everton. Furthermore, discussions are progressing amicably, and Gueye is keen to stay on Merseyside this summer.

He had reportedly received bids from several clubs, including Paris FC, who were keen to take him back to the city after securing promotion to Ligue 1. A big money move to Saudi Arabia was also a possibility for him.

Instead, it appears that he is closing in on signing a new deal at Everton in what will be a major boost to David Moyes as he looks to rebuild the squad this summer.

Losing the veteran would have been a blow as he’s been a key player under the Scottish manager since his return. All that remains to be seen is the length of extension the two parties are close to agreeing on.
