Zlatan and the 10 others to play for both PSG and Inter Milan

You may be surprised to learn that Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain have never actually met in a European game before.

The very first occasion will be Saturday's UEFA Champions League final, live on TNT Sports and [discovery+.](https://get.discoveryplus.com/gb/watch-tnt-sports-on-discoveryplus?utm_campaign=UK-TNT-E1-TNT-C7-TNT-BAU-DR-W-Football-ChampionsLeague-250101-NA&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tntsports.co.uk&utm_content=story-content-text-subscribe)

However, there have been a number of players to play for both sides over the years, 11 male and one female. The latter is Tabitha Chawinga, who had loan spells with both and is now plying her trade for Lyon. Here, we run down the 11 male players, starting with one you might have heard of…

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter 2006-09, PSG 2012-16)

-----------------------------------------------

Where else could we start? There are a number of big names to play for both these great clubs, but none bigger than Ibrahimovic.

The iconic striker first joined Inter in 2006 from Inter’s arch-rivals Juventus, and went on to score 66 goals in 117 games, winning Serie A in three straight years. From there he went to Barcelona and then AC Milan before moving to PSG.

He spent four years in the French capital (one more than Inter) and won four league titles as well as two domestic trebles (with the Coupe de France and the now defunct Coupe de la Ligue) before moving to England to play for Manchester United.

Of course, one of the big caveats across Ibrahimovic’s career was the fact that he never won the UEFA Champions League despite playing for three massive Italian clubs, as well as Barcelona. He does, however, have one UEFA title to his name, having won the Europa League in 2016/17.

Ibrahimovic is the only player on this list to have played over 100 games across all competitions for both teams.

Maxwell (Inter Milan 2006-09, PSG 2012-17)

------------------------------------------

And where Zlatan goes, there too goes Maxwell. The bromance between these two was one of football’s greatest during their playing careers; over half of Maxwell’s career games were played with Ibrahimovic. They played together at Ajax and from there, Inter, Barca and PSG.

Maxwell’s career at these two teams almost perfectly overlapped with Ibrahimovic, the only difference being he was not signed by Man Utd, so stayed an extra year in Paris before retiring.

However, unlike Ibrahimovic, Maxwell does have a Champions League title to his name. Whereas Ibrahimovic moved to Milan in 2010 on loan after falling out with Pep Guardiola, Maxwell stayed and was part of the team that won the Champions League the following year.

Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan 2013-20, PSG 2019-20)

-----------------------------------------------

One of the true modern greats of Inter, as crazy as that might sound to some. Mauro Icardi is firmly in the top 10 all-time goalscorers for Inter.

While he will not go down as a true Inter icon like compatriot Lautaro Martinez, he scored one more goal for the club than Christian Vieri, which is not bad going.

Icardi remained at Inter until 2019 when he joined PSG on loan, eventually joining permanently in 2020, where he spent two further seasons.

What is remarkable about Icardi’s career is that he never won a single trophy with Inter, his entire time with the club coinciding with their infamous trophy drought.

He won Ligue 1 with PSG in his first season in France, his maiden club title. He won a domestic treble in the 2019/20 season and went on to win the league once more.

Thiago Motta (Inter Milan 2009-12, PSG 2012-18)

-----------------------------------------------

If Icardi was synonymous with Inter, then Thiago Motta is surely that for PSG, who were the final club of Motta’s career but the one he stayed at the longest.

Motta began his career at Barcelona before short stops at Atletico Madrid and Genoa, eventually ending up at Inter.

His transfer saw him and team-mate Diego Milito move to Inter. In return, Inter paid €38.2 million as well as transferring FIVE players (Robert Acquafresca, Francesco Bolzoni, Leonardo Bonucci, Ivan Fatic and Riccardo Meggiorini). Some move.

At Inter, he won the Champions League under Jose Mourinho, but it did not last long, with Motta moving to Paris in January 2012.

There Motta shone, winning a mammoth 19 trophies over six-and-a-half seasons. This included five league titles and two domestic trebles.

It is worth noting that Motta has two Champions League titles to his name, having also been a part of Barcelona’s success over Arsenal in 2006, although he was an unused sub.

The modern trio

---------------

* **Achraf Hakimi (Inter Milan 2020-21, PSG 2021-present)**

* **Milan Skriniar (Inter Milan 2017-22, PSG 2023-present)**

* **Rafinha (Inter Milan 2017, PSG 2020-21)**

Achraf Hakimi played for Inter for just one season, but it was a crucial one as he played a big part in the club winning their first Scudetto in 10 years.

Hakimi then moved to PSG, where he has been ever since, and has a chance to lift the club’s first Champions League title.

Milan Skriniar was also part of that title in 2021, having been at the club since 2017. He ran down his contract and moved to PSG on a free transfer in 2023.

Skriniar is still under contract with the club but it has not worked as well as he would have liked and is currently on loan in Turkey with Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

Finally, we have Rafinha, son of Brazilian international Mazinho and brother of Thiago. Rafinha only spent one season with Inter, on loan in 2017, then had a short and uneventful spell in Paris before moving to Qatar.

The rest

--------

* **Youri Djorkaeff (PSG 1995-96, Inter Milan 1996-99)**

* **Benoit Cauet (PSG 1996-97, Inter Milan 1997-01)**

* **Stephane Dalmat (PSG 2000-01, Inter Milan 2001-05)**

* **Vampeta (Inter Milan 2000, PSG 2001)**

A slightly older quartet rounds off this group, and interestingly, we have the first three players who played for PSG first and then Inter, rather than the other way around.

None of this group got to over 50 games with PSG and Youri Djorkaeff was the only one to actually win something with the capital club, winning the Trophee des Champions in 1995 and then the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1996.

Djorkaeff and Benoit Cauet were part of the same team that won the UEFA Cup with Inter in 1998 and both stayed there for a good length of time, with Cauet making over 100 appearances.
