How Nottingham Forest can benefit from Olympiacos pursuit of Norwich City star Borja Sainz

Borja Sainz looks set to leave Norwich City this summer, but the destination of the Spaniard’s next club is up for debate with multiple sides seeking his signature.

As per The Pink Un, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal have already shown an interest in the winger, who scored 18 goals in 41 matches in the Championship in 2024/25, but now another European outfit have entered the race.

A report in Greece from Sport FM has explained that Olympiacos are showing an interest in the 24-year-old after they secured Champions League football after winning the Super League by a colossal 16 points.

However, they are facing strong competition from Bilbao, a club from the Basque region of Spain that can only sign players who were born locally – something that Sainz fits into. Yet, Olympiacos do have one advantage that they may look to exploit and it will only benefit a Premier League side.

Olympiacos’ Borja Sainz interest also benefits Nottingham Forest

Liam Manning is set to become the new Norwich manager in the coming days, but he will already be faced by one huge challenge in replacing the departing Sainz.

With so many options on the table, it may take a little bit of time for the Spaniard to choose his next club, but Olympiacos could provide the perfect opportunity, as well as the next step for him already prepared.

Evangelos Marinakis is the owner of the Greek giants, but they are not the only club that he oversees, with Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest also under his watchful eye.

The East Midlands side return to European competition for the first time since 1996 next season after qualifying for the UEFA Conference League, and success there will only lead to brighter days at the City Ground.

They will need new stars to take charge, with the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White already looking likely to move away from Forest and a deal may be able to be arranged in the future for Sainz if Olympiacos win this original battle.

Athletic Bilbao will surely be in pole position to sign the Norwich City ace

Norwich have already announced their first signing of the summer, and they will be hoping that the saga surrounding one of their star players does not drag itself out.

However, it must be said that the more clubs that are in the hunt for Sainz, the more it favours the Canaries as a bidding war could ensue. Manning will have plenty to spend in the transfer window, and he will be looking for replacements immediately.

Nevertheless, there will be debate over whether Norwich’s number seven will be able to compete at the level needed in La Liga, but a move to Spain could favour his style of play and with Athletic Bilbao a club that he will know well, a move to the Basque Country just makes sense.
