Eagles veteran who had ‘sad emotions’ during trade talks is ‘super stoked’ to be back

PHILADELPHIA — As Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert walked to the podium on Wednesday for his press conference, he joked with reporters: “Still here. You guys couldn’t get rid of me.”

This was the first time Goedert spoke about restructuring his contract for the 2025 season to stay with the Eagles.

Throughout the offseason, it was rumored that Goedert was available in trade talks because the Eagles wanted to lower the $14.25 million they owed him for the final year of his contract in 2025.

On May 7, Goedert agreed to rework his contract from $14.25 million to $10 million with a chance to make $1 more million via incentives, according to ESPN.

“Yeah, there was a little bit of uncertainty going into the offseason,” Goedert said on Wednesday. “I talked with my agent. I talked with (Eagles general manager) Howie (Roseman). There was a time where I wasn’t here for the beginning of OTAs. We were trying to figure out what was going to happen.

“We came to the agreement of the contract I’m on. I’m super stoked to be back here. I got love for a lot of people in this building. I got a lot of love for Philadelphia. Super glad to be back. We got high expectations. I want to help us get back to where we were last year.”

Goedert said he never requested to be traded or released.

After the season, he told his agent what he wanted to be paid. Then, he trusted him to handle the contract negations and trade talks.

“I try to put my ego out the door,” Goedert said. “It’s a business. I’ve seen people come and go. I’ve seen friends go through it. You take that all into consideration. I talked with my family. I talked with people that are close to me. Friends. Things like that.”

On some days, Goedert experienced “sad emotions” when he thought about leaving the Eagles.

He still hopes to play his entire career with Philadelphia and looks forward to his agent having more contract talks with Roseman after the season.

Over the last three years, the 30-year-old has missed 15 games with injuries, making it unlikely the Eagles or another team signs him to an expensive long-term deal next offseason.

Last year, he was still one of the league’s most talented tight ends, finishing with 42 catches for 496 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles need Goedert to make a big impact this season, especially if the offense throws the ball more.

“I’ve been very blessed to sign a good contract here,” Goedert said. “At some point, I wouldn’t want to play for less. I feel like I know my value. I feel like the Eagles know my value. Just finding something that I was OK with — a number that I felt excited, that my time was worth it, whatever I could do on the field, there’s a threshold I deserve. I feel we were able to get there.”
