Idrissa Gueye makes major claim over Everton ambition as award winners named

The Senegal midifleder picked up two prizes as the club announced their award winners for the 2024-25 season

Everton confirmed the winners of their end-of-season awards on Thursday. Idrissa Gueye, Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski have all picked up prizes.

Gueye earned both the Men's Player of the Season - voted for by supporters - and the Players' Player of the Season awards after another excellent campaign.

The 35-year-old has excelled in midfield throughout the year and made a remarkable 122 tackles, which was the most in the Premier League. Club captain Seamus Coleman handed over the Players' prize to Gueye at Finch Farm and paid tribute to the Senegalese's influence.

"This year it goes to someone who has been at the club for a couple of spells," he said. "He plays every week and leaves it all out on the pitch.

"I think last year especially, how you've been with the group and how you've trained and you've committed to Everton has been exceptional. Idrissa, another award for you!"

"I'm so proud to be part of this team," Gueye himself said after picking up the Men's Player of the Season award from David Moyes.

"Hopefully this team will get what it deserves. Like playing for the top five, playing in Europe and winning trophies."

The midfielder's future is still not resolved, although Everton are in talks with him over a contract extension.

Elsewhere, Tarkowski won the Goal of the Season gong. His volley deep into injury time against Liverpool saw Everton earn a share of the spoils in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The centre-back latched on to a loose ball at the back post to thunder home at the Gwladys Street end, sparking wild celebrations.

"There was only ever going to be one winner," said coach Leighton Baines, who presented the award to the defender at Finch Farm.

Branthwaite was recognised for his performances with the Young Player of the Year award. After a summer of transfer speculation and injury issues, the defender returned to the team and excelled.

The England international was key in the Blues earning the fourth-best defensive record in the division and showed again why he is among the most exciting centre-back prospects around.

"Really well deserved," said Everton coach Alan Irvine on presenting the award. "He's been fantastic all season."

Isaac Heath won the club's Under-21s' Player of the Season, while Sara Holmgaard was voted by her teammates as Everton Women’s Player of the Year.
