Ipswich Town forward Sammie Szmodics has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for their internationals next month.
The 29-year-old was named in Heimir Hallgrímsson's squad for their friendlies against Senegal and Luxembourg, alongside Town team-mates Dara O’Shea and Jack Taylor.
However, the FAI has now announced his withdrawal due to injury along with Everton’s Seamus Coleman.
Szmodics only made his return for Town following his long injury layoff as a late sub in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham on the final day of the Premier League season.
He had been out for three months having undergone ankle surgery in March after suffering repeated ankle injury set-backs at the start of 2025.
This will give Szmodics more time to recover before returning to pre-season training for Kieran McKenna's men in July. He has previously won 10 full caps for The Boys in Green.
