Arsenal are showing a strong interest in the free transfer of Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane this summer, though the player could still opt to remain with his current club.

Gary Jacob and Paul Joyce report for The Times that Arsenal are showing strong interest in Leroy Sane, with Mikel Arteta keen to target a winger this summer.
Bayern Munich are in talks with Sane over a new contract, but his current deal expires in June. If he doesn’t extend, he could move to north London for free.
Mike McGrath confirms for The Telegraph that Arsenal have made enquiries over Sane, as one of a few clubs who have asked about the conditions of a deal.

Sky Sports News claim Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Sane if he doesn’t extend his Bayern Munich deal, with the player’s agent holding talks with Bayern sporting director Max Eberl in Munich on Wednesday.
Bild reporters Christian Falk and Tobi Altschaffl confirmed back in March that Arsenal were interested in Sane. At the time, the player hadn’t held any contract extension talks with Bayern, but those have evidently since begun.
In fact, Falk reports all the way back in November that Arteta was very keen on a move for the winger, having previously hoped to sign him in 2023. There was no chance of a move then, but Sane’s contract situation makes it possible now.

Yet Sane is far from the first Bayern player to be linked with Arsenal whilst in contract negotiations. In recent times we’ve seen players like Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry quite heavily linked with the Gunners before extending their deals.
29-year-old Sane would bring a lot of experience and attacking threat to Arsenal, having notched another 19 goals and assists in 45 games (25 starts) for Bayern this season.
The winger obviously spent a while as a Premier League player with Manchester City, playing 90 times in the English top flight and contributing 55 goals and assists.
If there’s a genuine chance to sign Sane on a free transfer, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Arteta go for it. But it would be foolish to rule out the possibility this is just more agent talk to boost the player’s wages at Bayern.
