Newcastle United are preparing to take the next steps to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer.
The Magpies have qualified for the Champions League and are now looking to build a team to give Eddie Howe all the impetus he needs to be competitive next season.
Newcastle United have not signed anyone for the first team since the 2023 summer transfer window, but the upcoming window is set to be huge.
Reports have stated Newcastle have over £150m to spend this summer, having managed to work their way out of a severe PSR black hole by selling squad players who were not being given minutes.
Newcastle were seriously interested in Marc Guehi last summer, but failed to land him after Crystal Palace dug their heels in and demanded as much as £70m for his services. Sporting director Paul Mitchell was left frustrated by Newcastle’s pursuit of Guehi, having joined the club just days after they were forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to avoid a PSR points deduction.
If Newcastle do sign Guehi, it will be to the delight of winger Anthony Gordon, who had rave reviews for the defender in 2024.

Anthony Gordon urges Newcastle United to sign Marc Guehi
On Wednesday, it was reported that Newcastle are preparing to offer a deal for Guehi and Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo to get their transfer window off to a good start.
Howe wants to get his transfer business done early at Newcastle to steal a march on his Premier League rivals.

The Magpies will undoubtedly have one of the strongest teams in the league if they were to sign Guehi, and Gordon completely agrees.
In an interview with TalkSPORT in 2024, Gordon was asked about Guehi’s possible move to Newcastle.
“He’s top, he’s such a good player and I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he’s such a lovely guy and he deserves what’s coming to him,”
“I thought he was unbelievable in that game [vs Serbia] considering his height compared to the strikers they had on.
“He won every header, he was aggressive, intercepting loads and his main strength is composure on the ball, he’s like a midfielder.
“I haven’t actually seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I’d absolutely love him to come because he’s a top player and he’d make us a better team.”
Anthony Gordon’s Newcastle United future is in doubt
He has already given Guehi his seal of approval, but there is a chance Gordon may not get the chance to play with him if he does sign for the Magpies.
Gordon was absent from Newcastle’s starting XI for two months after receiving a red card in an FA Cup game and picking up an injury on international duty.
The winger returned to the starting XI for the final three games of the Premier League season, but failed to make an impact in any of them.
Now, recent reports have stated that Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in Gordon, and are even prepared to enter a bidding war for his signature this summer.
Gordon nearly joined Liverpool last summer while the club were looking for ways to get out of their PSR troubles, but ultimately opted to sell other young stars instead.
