Report: Man Utd make contact to sign 'world-class' midfielder who has 'the most suitors in…

Manchester United could look to land Atalanta midfielder Ederson in the coming transfer window, according to reports - with the Red Devils 'initiating contact' for his signature given that the Serie A outfit must stick or twist when it comes to selling him in the coming months, instead of losing him for a cut-price fee next summer.

The midfielder joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022, and has since featured in 139 games for the Lombardian side - only missing six Serie A games in the process, and being a part of their Europa League success last season with a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the final.

Ederson in action for Atalanta

The report by TuttoAtalanta states that Ederson is 'probably' the prized piece at the Bergamo club, with a number of suitors in Europe - and United have already started 'preliminary contacts' for his signature.

The Brazilian has yet to publicly express his desire to leave the Gewiss Stadium, though he doesn't seem to be willing to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the 2026/27 season. That could push Atalanta into a decision to sell him before they find Ederson leaving on a cut-price transfer next season.

The Champions League side must now choose whether to cash in immediately, bringing in funds to replace the 'world-class' 25-year-old, who they signed three years ago, or to focus on his efforts on the pitch where he could perform well next season before departing for a cheaper fee.

That could see United spring a move to force them into a decision. Christian Eriksen is departing the club in the summer, and the futures of veteran Casemiro and youngster Kobbie Mainoo remain uncertain amid interest from the Saudi Pro League and Chelsea respectively.

Should the trio depart, it would leave Manuel Ugarte as their only senior central midfield option, with Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes likely to be featuring further up the pitch - and Ederson would be the ideal option to play alongside his potential Uruguayan counterpart.

Three Brazil caps to boot would see him join compatriot Matheus Cunha at Old Trafford, with the Wolverhampton Wanderers star looking set to move to the Red Devils - and it would mark solid business for Ruben Amorim.
