Guess its Presidential Pardon week, in America. On Wednesday, March 28, NBA YoungBoy was officially granted a presidential pardon by former President Donald Trump, joining a group of eight other individuals who also received clemency. Among them were real estate personalities Todd and Julie Chrisley and former U.S. Representative Michael Grimm.
YoungBoy, born Kentrell Gaulden, took to social media to share his reaction to the life-altering news.
“I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building, as a man, as a father, and as an artist,” he said. “This moment means a lot. It opens the door to a future I’ve worked hard for and I am fully prepared to step into this.”
The rapper also gave special recognition to the people who advocated behind the scenes to make this moment possible.
“Big thanks to the Pardon Czar, Ms. Alice Marie Johnson, for fighting for second chances for so many people, and to my lawyer, Brittany K. Barnett, for being in my corner and all your hard work to make this possible,” his statement continued. “And thank you to everyone who believed in me.”
This presidential pardon couldn’t come at a more pivotal time in YoungBoy’s career. He’s gearing up to hit the road for his 27 city Make America Smile Again (MASA) tour, which kicks off September 2 in Dallas. The timing of the pardon adds both symbolic weight and real momentum to the tour’s message of transformation and hope.
