Chelsea have entered the race with Arsenal to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports in Portugal.

Gyokeres has emerged as one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe after another impressive season for Sporting in which he scored 54 goals in 52 matches and helped the Portuguese club win the domestic league and cup double.

Arsenal have already held talks to sign Gyokeres, with Correio da Manha reporting this week that the club’s hierarchy had a meeting with the striker’s agent in Lisbon over the weekend.

It’s claimed that Arsenal have put forward a proposal worth €70 million (£58.7m) and are ready to offer the Sweden international a five-year deal worth £110,000 per week before bonuses.

However, Record are now reporting that both Chelsea and Juventus have both made an approach for Gyokeres this week to enquire about the striker’s situation at Sporting.

Gyokeres has a €100m (£83.8m) release clause in his deal with Sporting, however, it’s understood that the Portuguese side would agree to a deal worth €80m (£67m).

Speaking this week, Sporting’s vice-president, Francisco Salgado Zenha, claimed that the club had not received an offer for Gyokeres and insisted they are under no pressure to sell the 26-year-old.

‘He has three more years on his contract,’ Zenha said.

‘At the moment there are no offers, he has three more years on his contract. I think the answer has been given.

‘[Sporting’s transfer plans] won’t be any different from last year. We want to keep the best players and retain talent. We want to continue to be champions, have competitive teams and fight on all fronts.

‘I have been in this role for seven years. In the years when Sporting were champions, we even made fewer sales than in other years… the fact that we are champions gives us a greater ability to retain players and talent.

‘Coincidence or not, we have not had to sell any players in those times. Not that we have not received offers, but the market is not under our control, we are always dependent.’

Chelsea, meanwhile, have also held discussions over a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

The 22-year-old, who scored 22 goals in 48 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season, has also attracted interest from Liverpool.

Enzo Maresca’s side are also competing with Manchester United to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who is available for £30m due to a relegation release clause.
