Delap was on fire for Ipswich this season depsite their relegation

Chelsea recently secured Champions League football after finishing fourth on the final day of the Premier League season.

They beat Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in order to return to Europe’s elite club competition.

Ornstein wrote on X: “Liam Delap suitors being informed he is not joining them, amid preference to sign for Chelsea. Sources at likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United, Everton and Nottingham Forest now aware. 22yo on course for Chelsea subject to personal terms + release clause requirements being met.”

Everton knew signing Delap was going to be a long shot

Given the calibre of clubs linked with the 22-year-old, it was always going to be difficult for the Toffees to sign him.

He proved himself for a club that got relegated, sending a message to everyone that he’s got what it takes to be a success in the English top flight.

However, Chelsea can offer him Champions League football and better wages, so a move to Merseyside was not really on the cards once the London club made their move.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin expected to leave, it is imperative that Everton bring in a quality striker this summer.

It’s imperative that they begin working right away on the new signing, as more clubs are in the hunt for attacking reinforcements and they would not want their targets getting hijacked.
