Report: Desperation behind the scenes for Reynolds and McElhenney as Wrexham's transfer policy…

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have no intention of seeing their Wrexham success slow down any time soon. They want the Premier League.

Wrexham achieved a third-straight promotion in 2024/25, landing themselves in the Championship, and in the second tier of English football for the first time in more than 40 years.

It’s a historic achievement for the club who in late 2021, when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over, were in the National League. Now, they’re 46 games away from potentially becoming a Premier League side.

As ever, many will doubt Wrexham going into this new and unknown league. But many have doubted them before and each time, Phil Parkinson has steered his side to promotion. It’d be foolish to write off the Dragons yet again.

But if Wrexham are to even stand a chance of competing this summer then the club need to be very active in the summer transfer window, with reports that Wrexham have a £25million transfer budget.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are desperate to reach the Premier League with Wrexham

As many might have guessed, the Hollywood co-owners are desperate to see Wrexham promoted to the Premier League. An exclusive report from Daily Mail has delved into transfer matters at the Racecourse and they’ve revealed the pair are ‘are desperate to reach the Premier League’, and how they plan to achieve it.

They write that ‘Mail Sport understands that plan involves targeting experienced top-flight players’ this summer, with the summer transfer window opening on June 1st for teams in the English Football League.

And already we’ve seen a number of Premier League-quality or Premier League-experienced players linked with Wrexham, including names like Tom Cairney who’s been offered a contract by Wrexham, Patrick Bamford, and departing Man United centre-back Jonny Evans too.

Ryan Reynolds’ Premier League prediction for Wrexham could come true

Going back to their 2021 takeover, Reynolds and McElhenney might have simply taken Football League status come this time now. Championship football may have been beyond their wildest dreams for Wrexham.

And now there’s no ceiling. How far the club can go is anyone’s guess and speaking in January 2023, Reynolds predicted Wrexham could be playing Premier League football inside 10 years, which is a prediction well on track.

Reynolds said: “In 10 years’ time, the plan is Premier League. Why not? No one has ever done anything great in this world thinking, ‘let’s go halfway’.”

Wrexham is becoming an ever-attractive destination for players: especially those towards the end of their careers like Steven Fletcher among others, so attracting players with Premier League experience could come quite naturally to the club this summer.
