Liverpool star or Manchester United man for club – DoF’s crush may not be financially doable

It may be a direct battle between Liverpool and Manchester United this summer in Barcelona’s plans to sign a forward at least.

That’s [according to journalist Gerard Romero](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw7NceYJ1ag), who reports that it could be a case of Marcus Rashford or Luis Diaz for Barcelona in the coming weeks.

The Liverpool star has been a target for Barcelona for the best part of a year, with them seemingly determined to add a forward to Hansi Flick’s options this summer.

Rashford, though, has also been on their list for some time. He looks destined to leave Manchester United this summer after a loan spell at Aston Villa in the second half of this season.

They would like to make the deal permanent but their failure to qualify for the Champions League has made that financially difficult. That’s led Rashford to exploring his options and his agent, his brother, was spotted meeting Barcelona yesterday.

That, naturally, created plenty of excitement both in Spain and England, with a move to the La Liga champions certainly an interesting career choice at this point.

Whether it actually happens remains to be seen and Romero reports that it’s potentially a choice between the Liverpool star or Manchester United outcast.

_“We already informed you four or five months ago in Barcelona at that summit, like in Lisbon, sorry, uh, between his agents, between his brother and Deco,”_ he said on Rashford.

_“So, it’s an option that’s still alive. It’s been reported in the last few hours. Barça’s interest in Luis Díaz, who is certainly a player._

_“He’s a striker that sporting director Deco likes, and not just a little. But logically, it’s not an easy option. The viability of the deal right now is quite complicated, given the financial situation Barcelona finds itself in._

_“There are always options. One of them, we insisted on, is Marcus Rashford, to be sold on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy. We’ll see whether Barcelona can afford him._

_“He’s willing to take a pay cut. So, of course, it would be a very, very attractive option, not only from a sporting perspective, but also financially for Barça. The other option continues to be Luis Díaz because he’s one of Deco’s crushes. But there, the financial situation could complicate Luis Díaz’s operation a bit.”_
