REPUBLIC of Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson is hoping Seamus Coleman will continue playing – but knows his role at Everton next season could be in coaching.
The 36-year-old is ruled out of the Republic of Ireland’s summer friendlies with Senegal (home) and Luxembourg (away) due to injury.
Hallgrimsson is eager for the Donegal native to continue playing but says the decision rests with the player.

“He is a leader in this squad and you cannot have his experience in many players,” said the Ireland manager.
“His experience, his leadership skills is one thing but his quality as a player is another thing as well and playing at the highest level for such a long time.”
It is understood Everton boss David Moyes is keen to retain Coleman next season, but it may be more in a “leadership role” rather than playing.
“It’s a shame and for the national team as well not to have him around,” Hallgrimsson added.

“But hopefully there will come another time for him and he’ll use the off-season to come back fit and flying.
“I know he’s going to be at Everton in what ever role, maybe a little bit more of a leadership role but it’s for him to answer if he is going to continue playing or not.
“It’s his decision but I’m hoping and the Evertonians are hoping he will continue playing.
“That’s for him to decide – not me.”
Coleman has been plagued by injury for the last few seasons and the former Sligo Rovers player may decide he’s suffered one injury too many and call it quits.
