Man United fans are humiliated by'embarrassing'scenes during post-season tour of Hong Kong

Manchester United have flown to Hong Kong for the second part of the 2025 post-season tour of Asia.

With the Red Devils short of cash, Ineos organised an £8m post-season tour of Asia including two friendly matches in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.

However, the misery from the 2024/25 campaign has spilled over into the tour and United were humiliated by ASEAN All-Stars with a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday afternoon.

Ineos deserve the humiliation for organising a shameless money-spinning tour so soon after a record-breakingly poor season. However, the Red Devils still have one more game to play before returning to Manchester and it seems the mood has hit a new low.

Man United fans embarrassed by Hong Kong scenes on tour

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United grew to become a global brand and the most popular football club in many countries across the world.

United have always attracted huge crowds when travelling in pre-season, but it seems the lack of success in recent years has impacted the club’s global fanbase.

Journalist Simon Stone pictured the “welcome party” set to greet United players landing in Hong Kong, and it’s fair to say fans were underwhelmed.

One fan replied “That is embarrassing! United’s worldwide appeal is disintegrating in front of our eyes…they have become completely irrelevant on a global scale.

“Malaysia and Hong Kong should be huge markets and this tour has shown no one cares about them anymore.”

Another reply read: “Why are we even doing this? Just embarrassing @ManUtd”

One fan pointed out the lack of tickets being sold: “There are still 10k unsold tickets for tomorrow’s game, so embarrassed.”

Many were quick to point the finger at Ineos and the Glazers: “They are doing untold damage to the club, this is all because of reckless ownership.

“The Glazers have more or less bankrupted this club all to line their own pockets. The football club is unrecognisable to what it was 10 years ago.”

Finally, a fan from Hong Kong gave an insight into the unsuccessful tour – “Telling y’all as a Hong Konger. The tickets aren’t selling. People don’t want to pay and watch these players. We do not like the team, and in fact they should find shame and focus on improving instead of getting money from us.”

The only positive from Man United’s post-season tour

Losing to an All-Stars team created just days before the tour was a new rock bottom for United, and fans will be begging for the season to finally come to an end.

However, there is one positive from the post-season tour that will help both Ruben Amorim and Manchester United in the long run.

Within Amorim’s 32-man travelling squad for the tour, there are nine unseen United academy stars who are yet to play any minutes in the first team.

After Wednesday’s defeat, Amorim praised the young players who took part in the match and promised more minutes for Sekou Kone after his impressive cameo.

Amorim has shown plenty of faith in United’s youth, and many academy players will be hoping to make a breakthrough to the first team next season. This post-season tour gives them a chance to impress.
