‘Ridiculous money’ claim made as Leeds United eye Southampton star

Southampton are asking for ‘ridiculous money’ for players amid rumoured Leeds United interest in Mateus Fernandes, John Percy has said.

Leeds United are heading for the Premier League and are sure to have a whole host of targets on the radar. LUFC have a talented squad, but it is one that needs strengthening for the step up.

The Whites have priority positions such as goalkeeper, left-back and attacking midfield, but there will be few areas they don’t look to add to in a bid to strengthen their entire ranks and starting XI.

As such, numerous players have been linked with moves to Elland Road, and Southampton star Mateus Fernandes is among them.

However, speaking on the Forest Focus podcast, The Telegraph reporter John Percy has suggested the LUFC target is among the players Southampton are demanding ‘ridiculous money’ for.

When discussing Nottingham Forest’s interest in the 20-year-old midfielder, Percy said Leeds United target Fernandes will have a lot of interest but he won’t be let go easily. He said:

“Fernandes is another one. I think they [Forest] looked at Fernandes in January, actually, as a potential. He’ll have a lot of interest. Apparently, Southampton are asking ridiculous money for players.

“So they’re not very easy to deal with at the moment, which is obviously what does happen at clubs when they’ve just been relegated. There’s a very sort of stubborn stance that they adopt.”
