Espanyol want goalkeeper Joan García to choose Newcastle United this summer, over Barcelona.
That’s according to AS, who say the goalkeeper wants to resolve his future quickly and Espanyol are hoping he chooses Newcastle.
The newspaper reports that Barcelona are insisting on García this summer, but he has options in the Premier League, namely Newcastle.
He currently has all of his suitors on tenterhooks, waiting for him to make a choice. Various clubs have moved forward to take advantage of his €25m release clause.
Barcelona want to sign him in an attempt to force out Marc Andre Ter Stegen, but his departure is not a given. That’s left García debating the move as he wants to be a starter.
Espanyol would prefer to him head to the Premier League, where Newcastle have emerged as the latest serious contender for his signature. They’re aware of the goalkeeper’s recent comments about his future.
He needs to make his choice soon as the various suitors are growing tired of waiting. If Espanyol had their way, he’d already be on his way to Newcastle and not to their local rivals.
