Caleb Williams obliterates Vikings draft rumor with brutal honesty

A couple of weeks back, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was the target of a lengthy and damning report from ESPN's Seth Wickersham.

After an OTAs practice, this week, Williams took an opportunity to completely shut down many of the false claims within the article. This included the idea that he wanted to play for the Minnesota Vikings instead of Chicago.

"Something that keeps getting lost is the fact that... After I came on my visit here... it was a deliberate and determined answer that I had wanted to come here," he said, per Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times.

“This whole storm that started was not wanted," Williams said, after explaining that he visited the Vikings first, and then the Bears.

As it turns out, much of the media blew this entire thing way out of proportion.

Caleb Williams never wanted to go to the Vikings over the Bears

There were plenty of reasons for fans to raise an eyebrow thanks to Wickersham's report, but the Vikings aspect was the one that hurt the most.

For fans who took it to heart, Williams' candid response was welcomed.

There are others who didn't give this report a second thought, of course. It seemed odd for this report to surface over a year after he was drafted and also after the Bears had put together an entirely new staff.

Things had changed drastically. And, to be frank, no one would have blamed Williams for not wanting to come to Chicago if it had been true.

In other words, the only thing that matters is the here and now.

Fortunately, though, Williams never desired to go to Minnesota over Chicago. He was set on changing the tide. He wanted to turn things around. After all, that's why the Bears brought him in at no. 1 overall, and he also said as much within his response.

All in all, Williams handled the presser with class. He did very well fielding the tough questions and vehemently shutting down the false reports.

So, can we move on now?
