Unai Emery has rebuilt his reputation at Aston Villa.

The Spaniard had taken the Villans into the Champions League, only being eliminated by a one-goal margin to the finalists Paris Saint-Germain.

However, that form led to a dip in the Premier League that has ultimately cost his side a place in the elite European competition next season.

Villa finished in sixth position in the top-flight after the 2-0 loss to Manchester United on 25 May, which condemned them to Europa League football.

Villa to keep Emery despite no Champions League

Emery’s Villa Park future has been the subject of speculation this season and that may increase after the Villans’ league position was confirmed.

TV commentator Ian Darke believes that the Spaniard will remain with the B6 outfit despite the fact that they missed out on another season amongst Europe’s elite.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, he said: “I think they will keep Emery as long as they give Monchi the right kind of manoeuvrability in the transfer market, I think he was probably quite bitter and disappointed about how it didn’t work out for him at Arsenal.

“Here is his chance to show in the top league in the world, that Arsenal got it all wrong and I think he is doing that.

“He is a bit of a masterful manager, gets teams to punch a bit above their weight like he did with Sevilla.

“I think he will want to keep on proving that with Aston Villa, I wouldn’t have thought he would be in a hurry to go anywhere else.

“He is somewhere near the top of the mountain where he is.”

Emery needs to be backed at Villa

Emery needs to be backed this summer, so he can try to get Villa back amongst the best in Europe.

That may prove to be a challenge though, with Profit and Sustainability regulations heavily impacting what the Villans can do in the market.

They may even be forced to sell homegrown star Jacob Ramsey as he would represent pure profit on the books.

However, they need to be careful, if they lost too much of the squad, Emery may decide to move on to a better opportunity.
