Southampton are keen on William Bøving from Austrian champions Sturm Graz, sources have told Football Insider.

Bøving has enjoyed an outstanding season with Sturm Graz with 21 goal involvements to help them win back-to-back league titles.

Southampton have been at a number of his games this season and will join a number of clubs in Germany, Spain and Italy racing for his signature.

The Austrian club want €5million (£4.21m) and the player is under contract until summer 2026, he will play for Denmark at next month’s Under-21 European Championships.

Southampton give new boss Will Still added firepower

Southampton were relegated with seven games remaining of the season, breaking the record for the Premier League relegation.

Amongst a plethora of issues, not least Russell Martin and Ivan Juric’s respective tactical style’s, was the Saints’ woes in front of goal.

Paul Onuachu was the club’s top scorer with just four goals, with Joe Aribo registering three strikes, and Adam Armstrong a paltry two.

With Mateus Fernandes looking set to leave this summer, and Tyler Dibling also likely to depart, Southampton will have funds to play with but must identify the right set of players to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

William Bøving latest Sturm Graz striker to impress

Sturm Graz are making a name for themselves on the continent, thanks to their consistent production of strikers.

Whilst Rasmus Hojlund has struggled immensely at Man United, the Danish forward spent time in Austria before his move to Atalanta.

Another example of their ability to identify number nines is Mika Biereth. The former Fulham and Arsenal man spent several seasons on loan, finding little success, before joining the Blacks.

During his time with the Austrian Bundesliga club, the 22-year-old found his form before joining Monaco, where he has scored 13 goals in 16 games.

Bøving is a versatile player capable of playing anywhere across the frontline and in midfield, and his 11 goals this season are a career-high tally.
