‘Right now’: Liverpool are currently talking about another potential £84m transfer – journalist

Liverpool look set for an incredibly fast start in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, the Reds already potentially have three transfers lined up.

Florian Wirtz is set to join Liverpool, Jeremie Frimpong is expected to sign for the Reds, while Milos Kerkez wants to join Liverpool too.

On top of that, Liverpool could also be in the market for a striker this summer.

Darwin Nunez is set to leave Liverpool, and the Reds are looking at replacements.

Writing on the Ranks FC Patreon page, Dean Jones has been discussing Hugo Ekitike’s future, and he says that talks with Liverpool are ongoing right now.

Liverpool currently in talks over Hugo Ekitike

Jones shared what he knows about the Frankfurt striker and his current situation.

According to the journalist, Frankfurt believe that a team will stump up the £84m asking price for Ekitike, and Liverpool are currently in talks about signing the forward.

“Frankfurt believe someone is going to pay €100 million (£84m) for him. Liverpool and Chelsea are both being kept in the loop about what would be required to get a deal done — not just the transfer fee, but all the other conditions too. Discussions are going on right now,” Jones wrote.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s past striker sales

Ekitike looks like an exciting player, but Liverpool need to tread carefully here.

Indeed, while Ekitike looks like a star, we’ve been here before with Eintracht Frankfurt strikers who look exciting only to flop at a big club.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s past striker sales Fee Club joined

Randall Kolo Muani £72m PSG

Omar Marmoush £57m Man City

Luka Jovic £50m Real Madrid

Sebastien Haller wasn’t good enough at West Ham and was swiftly sold to Ajax, Luka Jovic made next to no impact at Real Madrid before leaving the club, while Randall Kolo Muani is already at Juventus after signing for PSG.

Omar Marmoush looks like a star for Man City, but he may be the exception to the rule.

Signing Frankfurt strikers have proven to be a risky route over the years, and Liverpool need to be absolutely certain about Ekitike before spending so much money on the forward.
