Just yesterday, The Telegraph revealed that Newcastle United are readying ambitious moves for Bryan Mbeumo and Marc Guehi; two long-term targets of Eddie Howe’s.
Both are Premier League proven and would fill positions we’ve been trying to fill for several windows now, with a right winger and centre-back thought to be high on our shopping list this summer.
Mbeumo is the name so many Newcastle fans are desperate to sign after a 20-goal season with the Bees, but how likely is he to arrive and who are our alternative options should the Cameroon international end up elsewhere?
According to today’s piece from a certain North East reporter, Newcastle are growing in confidence in their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.
The Northern Echo’s Scott Wilson opens his latest transfer report with the following line: ‘NEWCASTLE UNITED are growing increasingly hopeful of being able to seal a deal for Bryan Mbeumo this summer, with the Brentford hierarchy having accepted they could struggle to hold on to the Cameroon international.’
He adds that there is now a ‘growing belief’ on Tyneside that Newcastle could bring the 25-year-old to St James’ Park this summer, despite rival interest from Man Utd and a number of clubs across Europe.
Mbeumo is thought to be Eddie Howe’s preferred option and it’s not hard to see why, but the same piece names two other domestic options that remain on our radar.
The Northern Echo also report that Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus have been scouted ‘extensively.’
This isn’t the first time Semenyo has been linked, although Kudus could be an alternative option as a talented 24-year-old capable of operating down either flank, up top or even in a No.8 role, as he often does for national team Ghana.
The Echo report that both Bournemouth and West Ham may need to make a sale before the end of June in order to comply with PSR, which could explain why Newcastle have taken a look.
Both could be strong additions to the squad, but Mbeumo would bring guaranteed goals to our front three, with 38 strikes and 21 assists in his last three league campaigns.
