Newcastle United appear to be set for a big summer in the transfer window.
Fresh from reaching the Champions League stage once again, things feel positive for Newcastle United right now when it comes to their potential spending power.
Indeed, Newcastle could spend £150million this summer as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his options.
It has been a long time since the Newcastle United manager saw his squad strengthened. While Howe performed miracles in the season just gone, he cannot be expected to do it forever.
The build-up to the transfer window has already been dramatic. Earlier this week, Newcastle confirmed sporting director Paul Mitchell will leave at the end of June.
Mitchell still wants to make a big signing at Newcastle, but it seems Howe will be in charge of who comes into the club this summer. With that in mind, insight from Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie is interesting.

PIF back Eddie Howe’s transfer record at Newcastle United
Last year, Mitchell upset people at Newcastle for criticising the club’s transfer policy.
To an extent, he was right. Their failure to sell players led to a PSR scramble where the club were forced to cash in on the likes of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.

Still, what’s done is done. Newcastle have signed some brilliant players under owners PIF and, so far at least, haven’t needed to sell any of them.
Writing on the Sky Sports official website, Downie confirmed the Newcastle United owners were delighted with Howe’s work in the transfer market, as well as that of his recruitment team.
“Howe and his recruitment team have the full backing of the owners given his major success in previous transfer windows, not to mention the small matter of the on-field success this season,” he said.
The genius behind Newcastle United’s transfer success
Howe obviously doesn’t do it all alone.
His nephew Andy Howe is reportedly involved, as is Newcastle’s Head of Recruitment Steve Nickson.
Nickson is highly rated at Newcastle and it’s easy to see why.
Indeed, Nickson played a huge role in bringing Alexander Isak to Newcastle, amongst a host of other players.
Newcastle fans are keen to see Nickson become their sporting director and the track record he boasts is certainly seriously impressive.
Right now, there wouldn’t appear to be much of a need for a new sporting director in the short term.
Newcastle look well-placed to enjoy a successful time of things this summer, even if there’s no sporting director in place just yet.
