Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly both interested in Julian Alvarez despite the former Manchester City striker reputedly not being keen on a Premier League return.
Alvarez, 25, spent two seasons at Man City, making over 100 appearances across all competitions and scoring 36 goals. They won the league during each campaign, adding the Champions League and FA Cup to complete a treble during his first.
However, the Argentina international started just 44 of 75 potential Premier League matches, with Erling Haaland their first-choice centre-forward. That seemingly played a part in a move to Atletico Madrid materialising during the last summer transfer window.
After agreeing to a club-record £82 million deal when signing Alvarez not even 12 months ago, the Spanish side is understandably keen to keep their talisman. Despite acknowledging it is true that there is interest from the Premier League, a GIVEMESPORT newsletter claims they absolutely want the striker to stay.
That comes after Marca , the Madrid-based Spanish tabloid sports newspaper, shared a similar sentiment after describing Arsenal as the most likely contender for the World Cup winner. Liverpool are also said to have sounded out signing Alvarez.
However, perhaps the most significant revelation from their reporting is that the player seemingly is not keen on a Premier League return. Alvarez reputedly feels more comfortable in La Liga - and Madrid more generally - after becoming one of the best players in Spain this season.
Barcelona also reportedly have the forward on their radar. However, there is an acknowledgement that any move would be for the summer of 2026 rather than ahead of next season due to their financial situation.
Alvarez is said to be a possible successor to Robert Lewandowski. The latter's contract at the Catalan club expires in 12 months, although the deal can be extended by an additional year.
