'Close to agreeing terms': Arsenal target deemed 'one of the best strikers in the world' could soon join CL rivals -…

Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs who have been linked with Lille and Canada star Jonathan David in recent weeks.

It was recently reported that Arsenal had David on their shortlist along with Chelsea, though the Blues are now closing in on Liam Delap.

TBR Football recently confirmed that Liverpool and Manchester United also held talks over David ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has now provided an update on David – and it looks like bad news for the Premier League chasing pack.

Napoli close to agreeing terms with Arsenal and Liverpool target Jonathan David

Sheth has claimed that David and his camp are close to agreeing terms with Napoli, who have just won the Serie A title for the second time this decade.

However, Sheth suggested that the race isn’t over, with Juventus also pushing to win David over.

“Napoli are close to agreeing terms with the representatives of Lille forward Jonathan David,” Sheth said on Sky Sports.

“However, officials from the new incoming board at Juventus have contacted David’s camp today and are also trying to do a deal for the player.”

Sheth said Inter Milan were also keen, but couldn’t reach an agreement with David and his camp.

Several Premier League clubs retain an interest in David and have asked to be kept up to date with his situation, added the Sky Sports journalist.

David will become a free agent when his contract at Lille officially expires next month.

Other strikers Arsenal and Liverpool could target

David is a high-quality forward previously deemed “one of the best strikers in the world” and the fact he’s a free transfer is even more appealing.

However, in case Arsenal or Liverpool miss out on him, they have other players on their respective radars.

TBR Football previously revealed that Arsenal have been taking a close look at a long list of strikers they have watched before.

These include Viktor Gyokeres, Ollie Watkins, Dusan Vlahovic, Jonathan David, Victor Osimhen, Moises Kean, Mateo Retegui, Hugo Ekitike, Samu Aghehowa and Victor Boniface.

The report on Gyokeres has been particularly impressive, as have those for Osimhen, David and Ekitike. Alexander Isak also remains a target.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are said to be keen on Ekitike, although some fans aren’t so sure about the Eintracht Frankfurt man.

Liverpool have also been linked with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro.
